ReceiptFaker organises its catalogue around named national retailers — Target, Walmart, Costco, CVS, Best Buy. It is a good idea running on a small library: 100+ templates, which means that when the chain you need is not among them, the catalogue has no second answer for you. That ceiling, more than any feature, is what sends people looking at the alternatives.

We make one of them. Repceipt is in the table below and marked as ours throughout. Every figure here was read off each vendor's own live pages on 7 September 2026, and those pages are linked at the end. Where a vendor publishes nothing, this article says so rather than guessing.

The short version

Repceipt is the closest replacement, and the only one that does not shrink your catalogue. It holds 632 store layouts against ReceiptFaker's 100+, names them after the same national chains, and exports an 80mm thermal PDF that no other browser tool here produces. Its free tier opens all 632 of them. The rest of the field is narrower and fits narrower jobs: SimpleReceiptMaker for a free receipt with no watermark, MakeMyReceipt for a JPEG or a single week's access, MakeReceipt Enterprise for QuickBooks and batch generation, Receiptmakerly for the lowest annual price at $47.

On price, ReceiptFaker sits mid-table at $100 a year list. Ours is $108 — $8 more for six times the published template count, which works out at about 17 cents a layout against ReceiptFaker's dollar. Three tools here are cheaper than either, and one is free.

How ReceiptFaker's catalogue is shaped

Worth understanding before you switch, because it is the thing people assume they would lose.

Its 100+ templates lead with specific chains. Suppose you need a receipt that reads as one named retailer. Browsing by brand is the fastest route to it, and a catalogue indexed that way finds it in one step.

Most alternatives do give that up. They index by store type — grocery, pharmacy, café, fuel, parking, retail — and answer "I need a plausible receipt of this kind" rather than "I need this company's receipt".

Ours does both, and that is the correction worth making before the table. The 632 layouts are named after the retailers they were drawn from, the gallery opens with a search box reading "Search templates, brands, categories", and the category filters sit beside it. ReceiptFaker's five headline chains — Target, Walmart, Costco, CVS, Best Buy — account for 18 separate layouts on our side alone, including regional variants like Walmart Canada and Costco Australia that a 100-template library has no room to carry.

So the shape difference is real for most of this field. It is not a reason to stay put.

What ReceiptFaker publishes, and what it does not

Its pricing is public and clearly laid out: weekly, monthly and annual plans, at $100 a year list. Paid plans remove watermarks and add custom template saving. Free exports are watermarked.

Its FAQ raises the question of which file formats it exports. The answer does not render on the page. Third-party descriptions say PDF, PNG and JPG. We have not verified that. So the table records the row as unpublished rather than repeating someone else's summary.

It publishes nothing about logo upload or thermal output either. Like every tool in this category, ours included, it restricts itself in writing to legitimate, creative and educational use.

Ours, so weigh this accordingly.

632 store layouts counted on 7 September 2026, against ReceiptFaker's 100+. They are named after the retailers they were drawn from and filterable by category, so brand-first and type-first browsing both work on the same library. They were redrawn from real receipts rather than invented, which is why the dashed rules, barcode placement and column positions behave the way paper ones do. We have published the measurements behind that and how the layouts are structured.

Two things nothing else here offers. An 80mm-wide PDF sized for a thermal receipt printer, exported straight from the browser — no app and no driver. And on the Studio plan, sending a photo of a receipt you hold and getting it back within a day as an editable template, which is the answer when no catalogue of any size carries the layout you need.

The free tier opens all 632 templates with unlimited saved receipts. Free exports are watermarked, as they are on ReceiptFaker. Pro is $108 a year against their $100.

SimpleReceiptMaker — free, with no watermark

The only tool here that exports a clean receipt for nothing. Its homepage states "Free · No watermark · No account needed", with 130+ templates as PDF, PNG or JPEG, and a logo upload that takes SVG.

If the watermark is what pushed you to look elsewhere, this ends the search.

MakeMyReceipt — JPEG, paper tints and a weekly plan

MakeMyReceipt lets you drag sections around the receipt instead of filling a fixed form, as our editor does. Around 195 templates, PNG, PDF and JPEG export, no signup, $9 a month, and a $4.50 weekly plan.

Useful if you want a JPEG or a week at a time. Note one thing about its thermal, white and yellow paper styles. They change how a receipt looks. They do not produce an 80mm print file.

MakeReceipt — QuickBooks and batch generation

The only tool in this comparison with a published integration story. Its membership page lists an Enterprise tier with a QuickBooks integration and an API for generating receipts in batches.

Its entry plan is the cheapest paid tier here, at $71.88 a year. The full library of 60+ styles needs PRO, at $119.88.

Receiptmakerly — the lowest annual price

$47 a year, or $8.90 a month, from its pricing page. Less than half what ReceiptFaker lists.

It is the only tool here with no free tier, so the price is what you pay to find out whether it suits you. It also publishes the least of any tool in this table.

ExpressExpense — Bluetooth thermal printing

Its companion app prints to Bluetooth thermal printers directly from a phone, which no browser-based tool matches. Around 50 templates on its homepage, and one free style.

The catch is that it publishes no prices at all. Not on its pricing page, not on its signup page. Figures quoted for it elsewhere did not come from the company. We cover that in detail in our ExpressExpense alternatives guide.

There is no row here for staying put. Browsing by named chain is ReceiptFaker's distinguishing idea, and the one thing an alternative was assumed to cost you. At least one alternative does it at six times the scale.

What we could not verify

• ReceiptFaker does not state its export formats. Its own FAQ asks the question, but the answer does not render on the page.
• "100+" is a floor, not a count. ReceiptFaker publishes no exact total, so the per-layout figures above use 100 and understate its library if it holds more. Our 632 is an exact count from our own sitemap, and the 18 layouts across its five headline chains were counted the same way.
• It publishes nothing about logo upload or thermal output. The table records those as not published rather than absent — a tool that never markets a feature may still have it.
• Its prices were captured mid-promotion, at 40% off the annual plan. The list price is shown, because a sale price would date this article.
• ExpressExpense publishes no prices at all.
• We have not tested any competitor's exports by hand. Everything here is what each vendor publishes about itself.
